Fighting Ransomware Project

In July 2016, the No More Ransom project launched as a collaborative initiative.  The goal is to provide practical help for victims of ransomware.  Ransomware is a malware that locks the victims computer and encrypts their data. The attacker demands a ransom to be paid by the victim in order for the victim to regain control of its device.  No More Ransom is a new online portal aimed to inform the public about the dangers of ransomware.

Since then, access to decryption tools like CoinVault and Shade are also available.  In conclusion, about 2,500 victims have been able to decrypt and recover files without having to pay a ransom. Europol, one of the creators of this project told SecurityWeek that they expect for other law enforcement agencies and IT security companies to join in the future. So far 13 new members have joined. As of now, No More Ransom project is a promising non-commercial initiative.
